Dear son, We received your letter Sunday 5th and was glad to hear you well. We are well as usual. The township met Saturday but did nothing but elect officers. I suppose you heard George Stoltz is dead. We got a letter from Steve which was wrote the 20th he was well then. Since we heard Vicksburg is taken also Richmond which I do not believe _____ we have had some good shows here and corn grows rapidly.
I took George's wife to Bremen Saturday. They were here a week. Grass and oats will be short. Last winter we had 6 head of horses, now we have 3 and gale the pacewr and the grey and pet is dead. Hayes said she died with asphyxiation of the lungs. She was worth $125. Now we work Nell and Stephens colt which works well. We are still in weakness living for god like so often as death we may meet in heaven.
You affectionate father till death William Connor
