November the 7th 1861

Dear friends I received yours of the 27 of October and was glad to hear from you and I also received yours of the 8th of September and I was very much surprised to learn that you had not received my answer to yours of the 8th of September for I am confident that I answered it and if you have not got it perhaps you will get it yet or at least I hope you will we are all well at this time and I hope this may be read by you enjoying the same blessing. There has been a great deal of sickness and death among the friends since you was here(.) I have read three letters this evening and I do realy think they were all from dear absent friends (.) One was from the Rev Mr Milligan

and one was from your Brother Aaron and the other from yourself and your Brother John (.) They ware all brought from the office this evening (.) Your folks was all well when Aaron wrote and when I read your letter I mearly suggested that you was thinking a little hard about not getting any letters from Ohio and I thought that I would sit down and try to scribble a few lines to you and tell you some of the news (.) At any rate Robert Black and Mag Alexander is married at last and Henery Adcock and Julia Lott is married now (.) I saw I was pleased with your letter all but one part of it and that was when you talk of going to war (.) o never never let such thoughts find place in your head for I never want to hear

of any of my friends going to war (.) It is but a poor piece of business I think (.) Isaac we will all die soon enough without going out to be shot down like dogs (.) You know that we are all to preserve our own life and the life of others and is that the way to complete the 6th commandment I think not (.) Now Isaac if you want to hear what I think about those persons that are so big up for the war I will tell you in my next letter (.) I will not tell you now for fear you did not wish to hear and you must not be insulted when you do hear (.) George nor Edson did not go to the war and the last that I heard form your uncle Isaac was that he could not rais a company and that he would have to shoulder his musket and go as a private himself (.) What do you think of that people sometimes
