Dear Friend Mary

I received your most welcomed letter this morning and I assure you that I was very glad to hear from you as it is the first I have had from you in about six months I am as well as usual with the exception of my hand that does not seem to gain very fast Has not gained scarcely any since I last wrote it will be a long time before it gets entirely well if it ever does I am now acting as clerk for Dr Hearlow the surgeon in charge of this hospital A very nice man he is
